Greta Thunberg, born on January 3, 2003, is a Swedish environmental and climate change activist, and daughter of Swedish opera singer, Malena Ernman, and actor, Svante Thunberg. In August 2018, Greta started what soon would become the Fridays for Future movement. She was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome in November 2014.[1]
Greta's movement consists of teenagers skipping school on Fridays, to push the politicians into more environmental-friendly politics. She has also carried out many international travels, attending climate conferences.
Defending attacks
Greta has been subjected to many attacks based on her diagnosis. Australian journalist Andrew Bolt called her "deeply disturbed" and "with so many mental disorders".[2] Daily Wire podcast host Michael Knowles called her a "mentally-ill Swedish child."[3] Fox host Laura Ingraham compared her to homicidal fundamentalist youths in Stephen King’s Children of the Corn.[4] These and other earlier examples caused Steve Silberman to defend Greta on the Vox website.[5] Greta herself has been on the attack, accusing critics of "autism bashing".[6] and reserved a barb at Bolt on Twitter returning fire on his "deeply disturbed" remark.[7]
